Awards Extravaganza!

A camera pans over a vast audience of super-heroes and super-villains from all walks of live, orchestral fanfare playing all the while, before the camera and the stage lights come to focus on the main forum, and its red velvety curtains.

An announcer's voice booms: "Live, from Bob Kane Memorial Stadium - designed, drawn, and funded by Bill Finger - it's the Second and a Half Annual Ambush Bug Presents Awards Extravaganza!"

The curtains part, giving way to the night's emcee - Ambush Bug, dressed to the nines in a sharp tuxedo. A sharp, orange tuxedo.

"Good evening ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the Ambush Bug Awards - the Schwabbies, as they are popularly known. This is our second and a half annual ceremony, and I hope we can continue the fine tradition of dignity and aplomb that we have maintained all these years. But - what's this?"

Ambush Bug looks towards the rafters, where there is suddenly a glow.

"Aww, man, I thought Cheeks was sure to win!"

The Bug is back, ready to introduce the next presenters.

"Our next award is a little something special. Very little, in fact. The Best Cameo award celebrates excellent, but small, appearances. Unfortunately, due to the vast volumes of source material to choose from, and the omnipresence of cameos throughout, we have decided to somewhat narrow the scope for the nominees... to this show."

"So, here to present the award for 'Best Cameo in the Ambush Bug Awards', are Booster Gold and Blue Beetle!"

Booster stalks onto the stage from the wings, still fuming over his Best Sidekick award - but maintaining a tight grip on the statue. No such thing as bad publicity, right?

Behind him, Blue Beetle follows him out, apparently having difficulty in stifling his laughter.

"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen."

He coughs to hide a laugh, and reaches under his mask to wipe away a tear of mirth.

"I'm Blue Beetle, and this is Booster Gold.."

".. my sidekick."

He shakes with silent laughter as Booster fumes. Beetle recovers in short order though, getting back to business.

"Our first nominee for Best Cameo in Ambush Bug Presents, is Captain Marvel, Jr. .. Freddy Freeman, you'll all remember, was one of our presenters for Most Likely to Succeed, and was soundly defeated by the Batman."

Booster grumbles, but he puts on his best dazzling smile.

"Our second nominee is one of the writers of this show, the terror of Gorilla City, Gorilla Grodd."

"You know, he kind of resembles Gladys from a certain point of view.."

Booster shoots Beetle a glare, before Ted continues with the ceremony.

"Up third, we have our witch-burning presenter for Tiniest Costume, Shining Knight."

"Our fourth nominee is one of the presenters for.. " he sighs. "The Best Sidekick Award - longtime JLA Mascot, Snapper Carr."

"And lastly, one of our presenters for Best Hat - the funniest Legionnaire by far, Tenzil Kem - AKA Matter-Eater Lad!"

Beetle takes up the envelope, sliding it open and reading the card within.

"Ladies and gentlemen, our winner - the Silent Knight!"

The Knight makes his way out on the stage, claiming his trophy with a grateful nod .. and pauses silently at the microphone.

Finally, he resolves to flash a thumbs-up at the audience, then makes his way offstage.
